“I’m an acute medical registered nurse and in my spare time I like to lift weights at the gym.”

Alex is a registered nurse and chooses to decompress after work by going to the gym. For her, delivering high quality care to patients is about being able to take a balanced and holistic approach.

“Part of my role is about caring for people when they’re at their most vulnerable and I need to be able to do that with empathy.”

It’s important to Alex that she treat her patients with empathy, but she finds it challenging to not bring their emotion home with her. So, she compartmentalises. By doing that, she can come back the next day and provide the best care she can.

“Being a nurse can be stressful at the best of times. Getting into the gym is really about quieting the noise down and making sure that I’m in the zone. When you’re lifting heavy weights, you can't afford to be distracted.”

Alex emphasises how tough nursing can be on the body. Going to the gym not only builds her physical strength, but also gives her the mental and emotional strength to do hard daily tasks at her job. To do both, she values hassle-free clothing that she doesn’t need to think about.

“I was a little bit hesitant to begin with, worried that the scrub bottoms might not be able to squat as low as I do, but I was very surprised. They move well.”

Alex was happy with her NNT scrubs and how they provide easy movement and flexibility. In the gym and on the ward, she appreciates clothes that fit and stretch with her while she’s moving, bending, and lifting.

“I wasn’t too hot, which I was concerned about. Life on the ward can get sweaty.”

On top of being able to bend and move, her clothes need to be breathable. It can get uncomfortably warm on the ward and in the gym, and her clothing needs to combat that feeling of discomfort and overheating. The scrubs are made from a breathable cotton-rich blend that boasts a high-tech antibacterial finish for added freshness and protection. This Polygiene® technology is imbedded into the fabric and lasts for the garment’s lifetime without washing out.

“The scrubs are a 10 out of 10 and they stood up to the challenge.”

Alex deemed the scrubs well-suited to working the ward and lifting heavy weights.
