We reconnected with Dr Preeya Alexander – GP, author, TV presenter and mum of two – to learn more about her inspiring medical journey, day-to-day life, and why she’s a fan of our newly launched Invigorate Scrubs.
What made you want to become a GP?
“I have always been interested in medicine. I was a very accident-prone child, so I spent a lot of time with doctors – and I just fell in love with the notion of being able to help people.”
Dr Preeya is particularly passionate about preventative health, preconception care and mental health, all of which she covers in general practice.
What does a day in the life of Dr Preeya look like?
“I have to be honest, I have a slightly fluctuant life, and my career is a little bit haphazard.”
As a busy mum of two and dedicated GP, Dr Preeya’s days are always jam-packed – and that’s even before she steps into the consulting room. Once at work, she starts with checking patient results, reviewing hospital letters and making a flurry of phone calls. Then, it’s straight into consultations and caring for patients. And what about after work? She’s back into the chaos of home life; school pick-ups, dinner prep, helping with homework and, if she’s lucky, a moment to herself for a walk or Pilates class.
Why do you love your NNT Invigorate scrubs?
“I love my NNT scrubs because I can do whatever the day throws at me [in them].”
Beyond the vibrant colours and great fit, Dr Preeya can’t go past the versatility of the Invigorate Scrubs. Whether she’s consulting with patients, walking the dog or heading to soccer practice, she loves how comfortable they are and how effortlessly they adapt to every part of her routine.
“I love the pockets; they're really functional, they're comfortable, they breathe and they're literally wash and wear — which is what I probably love most about them.”
What are your top self-care tips for staying balanced in a busy life?
Dr Preeya is a big believer in prioritising physical activity, getting plenty of good-quality sleep, and finding ways to sneak fruit and vegetables – or, as she fondly calls them, “rainbows” – into your day. On top of that, Dr Preeya recommends practising mindfulness and making time for whatever self-care looks like for you.
